On June 28, 2022, Bucharest Airports National Company organized an event meant to support a responsible attitude towards the environment, "Connecting Europe 2022", under the auspices of the European Commission. Within this joint European project, Bucharest Henri Coandă International Airport was chosen as one of the four airports for a “Green Flight” demonstration with SAF (sustainable aviation fuel). Thus, in order to communicate this message of environmental protection, Bucharest Airports National Company offered green symbolic gifts to the passengers of Wizz Air flight to Lyon, attempting to put ecology and technology within the same complicated equation.
The use of SAF leads to a reduction in carbon dioxide emissions, as compared to traditional aircraft fuel. Moreover, the commitment of Bucharest Airports National Company for sustainability can be demonstrated by its constant effort along the years: Henri Coandă International Airport obtained a recertification of accreditation of Henri Coandă International Airport - level 3 (“Optimization”) in terms of carbon emissions, from the International Airports Council, in 2021, as a “recognition of the airport’s excellent management in reducing CO2 emissions and engaging other stakeholders in this process, as a response of the global airport industry to the climate change challenges”. In 2021, CNAB also received the certification for level 2 for Bucharest - Băneasa Aurel Vlaicu International Airport.
Reducing the carbon footprint is a current priority in the aviation industry, Bucharest National Airports Company joining this effort through its entire policy of sustainable development and use of green, eco-friendly technologies, for the benefit of environment protection, responsible use of resources and global warming solutions.
